Role Purpose

Lead the day-to-day delivery of FTJV ground magnetic survey operations, ensuring crews execute the approved survey plan safely, efficiently and to the required technical quality. The role combines field leadership with hands-on magnetometer acquisition, positioning, QA/QC and data-processing capability, and is responsible for developing Senior Crew Leads and Crew Leads through practical training, coaching and performance oversight.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and issue daily/weekly ground magnetics survey plans, line/station assignments and crew priorities; track progress and adjust for terrain, access, equipment or data-quality constraints.

• Lead multiple crews and provide hands-on technical support for GEM Systems GSM-19 v9.0 Overhauser magnetometer setup, walking acquisition, console use, troubleshooting and safe handling.

• Oversee field QA/QC for data completeness, line continuity, positioning quality, noise/spikes, coverage gaps and repeat/re-survey decisions.

• Ensure daily magnetic data is transferred, validated, organised, backed up and processed using GEMLink+ or approved software, including diurnal correction, profiling, line-path review and basic mapping/modeling as required.

• Manage GPS/GNSS-supported navigation and positioning, including coordinate/line guidance and available SBAS, DGPS or RTK correction workflows where configured.

• Train and coach Senior Crew Leads, Crew Leads and field personnel in acquisition technique, equipment handling, positioning, QA/QC, data workflow, troubleshooting and safe working practices.

• Coordinate with the Field Operations Manager and HSE team; conduct pre-start/toolbox coordination and maintain strong HSE leadership, journey management, heat controls and emergency readiness.

• Provide concise daily updates covering achieved coverage, repeats, QA/QC issues, equipment readiness, safety observations, productivity and the next-day survey plan.

Required Experience & Competencies

• Minimum 5+ years of ground-magnetics experience covering field deployment/acquisition, QA/QC and magnetic data processing.

• Hands-on magnetometer experience; GEM Systems GSM-19 / Overhauser experience strongly preferred.

• Practical GPS/GNSS survey-navigation experience; SBAS/DGPS/RTK familiarity desirable.

• GEMLink+ or comparable software experience for data transfer, diurnal correction, profiling and basic mapping/modeling is strongly desirable.

• Proven experience supervising field crews and converting survey plans into safe, achievable daily work programs.

• Good knowledge of HSE requirements for remote field operations, including hazard identification, toolbox meetings, journey management and emergency response.

• Degree/diploma in Geophysics, Geology, Surveying/Geomatics, Earth Sciences, Engineering or related discipline preferred; strong equivalent field experience may be considered.

• Strong leadership, training, problem-solving, reporting and data-integrity skills; remote desert/GCC experience is an advantage; candidate must be medically fit and willing to work hands-on in remote desert field conditions.
